August Update

Grandma and Oscar inspect a very old tree

We haven’t done an update in ages.  Sorry!  Here are some highlights of what we’ve been up to the last couple of months.  The big one is the trip Oscar and I took to Melbourne with my mum.  It was VERY exciting.  We went to see the Tutankhamen exhibition which has never been to Australia before.  And possibly will never be here again!  Sadly, I haven’t any photos to post as we weren’t allowed to take pic’s or video.  I did, however, take some snaps inside the Melbourne Museum, which we all thoroughly enjoyed wandering around in before walking through the King Tut exhibition.   Here’s Oscar and Grandma next to a really big tree trunk that Oscar’s just sawn through with the plastic knife in his hand.

Oscar then used his knife to kill and skin this snake.

We saw dead dinosaurs at the Museum and “live” ones at Southbank.   We walked through city gardens, rode on trams, watched street performers and ate some of the best chocolate and macaroons in the world!  Along the way we attempted to absorb some history and culture.  We did so much in such a short time that we came home absolutely exhausted.  But wow, we really enjoyed ourselves.
Speaking of chocolate... here is a photo of Oscar at Easter time.

From the big city to the farm, we sometimes visit our friend’s neighbour’s property and help feed the cows, let the dogs have a run, pat the horses and try to stop Missy from eating the chooks.  Recently a very lucky Oscar got to have a drive of the “buggy”.  Caroline, we applaud you for your courage and patience!

So what else have we been up to?  Well, Neil is working hard (too hard!) and I am still doing home duties and studying.  I am enjoying my “prac” at the school immensely and have been gaining some experience this term in one of the Prep rooms.  They are so cute!  Mostly.  I have a heart check-up in about a week and am expecting that it will be all good news.  Oscar brought home a very good report card this week and today was presented with a Principal’s Award at assembly for a glogster he created all about the Nervous System.  We are so proud of him!
So that’s the last couple of months in a nutshell.  Oh, just to follow up on our last blog, Brisbane and the surrounding areas have mostly recovered from the floods with just a few places still needing some serious TLC.  Unfortunately there is now an explosion in the rat population due to the floods (why the little buggers didn’t just drown I don’t know) and I’m VERY glad we have a dog that’s mostly Terrier!  Not that we’ve had any rats at our place.  But then we didn’t see any at our old house either and you all know what happened there.  Rats or mice chewed through our water pipes!  I’m considering periodically tossing Missy up into the roof cavity.  Just in case.  ☺
